II International Conference on Protecting the Environment from Traffic Noise TRANSNOISE 2013 took place on 23-25 October 2013.
The discussion began with the discussion about environmental protection legal regulations, their current changes and their impact on the protection methods used. Subsequent sessions focused on methods of protection against traffic noise: design solutions, silent pavements, noise barriers, planning and urbanization aspects.
A total of 30 presentations were showed in five thematic sessions. The speakers came from many different backgrounds: representatives of the scientific world (Cracow University of Technology, Bialystok University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, GdanskUniversity of Technology, AGH University of Science and Technology, Bari University of Technology), road administration (General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), Polish Railway Lines (PKP PLK), Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection (RDOŚ) and Province Roads Authority (ZDW), institutes and organizations (PSWNA, European Research Institute Federation for Acoustic Screens, Kieler Institut für Landschaftsökologie) and companies (EKKOM, TPA Ltd., Signalco, Kolhauer GmbH).
Conclusions of TRANSNOISE 2013:
- Further discussion on issues of environmental protection from traffic noise is necessary, but it must take place in a coordinated manner by representatives of road network authorities, scientists and industry specialists.
- Implementing changes to legal regulations concerning protection against traffic noise requires systemic actions, resulting from prior identification of problems and an analysis of needs.
- There should be general procedures for the selection of environmental methods that take into account technical, economic and social criteria and will provide an opportunity to introduce phases in the implementation of these methods.
- It is necessary to carry out further research and analysis on methods of protection the environment against traffic noise.
